Hello! I’m just your everyday beauty junkie/ accountant/smarty pants with a lot of information to share. I got my start in beauty at a young age, as my mom was the neighborhood Avon lady.  I loved playing with the tiny lipstick samples she gave out to her customers. I worked as a make-up artist part time for many years, doing freelance work along with selling cosmetics. The most important thing my mother taught me about skin care was to always wash (or worsch if you’re from the Midwest like me)  your face before going to bed.

I’m an accountant by trade and never met a deal I didn’t like. (except maybe all you can eat buffets) I like to look good, but don’t want to spend a fortune doing so. I travel a decent amount and always manage to get deals wherever we go. It’s amazing what you can find just by doing a little research.

I’ve got useful tips to make your life easier and doing so with less cash.   Just well researched information you can use every day.  I have created this blog to share some of the many cools things I have learned over the years and continue to learn.  I hold a BA in Accounting and do volunteer work with senior citizens in my area, and teach financial literacy to high school students.

I love to share ideas with people on how to live life better, even if it’s only a new lipstick color.  I also like to make people laugh, so if you’re having a bad day, visit my blog! You’ll be glad you did!

Thanks for visiting!

  9. Nice to meet you cornfedcontessa 🙂 Thank you for following me over at Soul Gifts – appreciate it. I’m going to have a look around and see what being corn fed does…

  10. Hello there. Thanks for following my blog. I’ve not recently returned many ‘follows’ but I really like your blog and your approach. It might also, I confess, have something to do with the fact you’re an accountant; I’m currently writing a novel about a female accountant so ‘meeting’ you feels like it was meant to happen. Cheers, Janet

    • Thanks so much for the kind words. If you need any insights about my line of work, just drop me a line. I’m not your typical accountant, as I have a very good sense of humor. No anal retentive stuff stuff for me! LOL!

  11. Oh my goodness I didn’t think any other area in the US said worsch with the exception of Pittsburghers. My mom says this all the time and I had to resign myself to the fact she is never going to say wash😉sigh. I look forward to reading the information you provide from your research. Have a good one!

  12. It’s true. You woke up and found yourself in Uncle Bardie Country. Now that you have followed Uncle Bardie, you may find yourself at that fork in the road that you have to take. With Uncle Bardie for a guide, you can be comforted that you may stub your toe on a pun, find you can’t resist laughing at those things you never thought funny, and wake up to wonder what Uncle Bardie is up to. It’s okay. That itch can be scratched. Simply tune in to the next Post, It could very well be a doozy or not. Either way it will be coming from the whacky mind of Uncle Bardie. So thanks for following Uncle Bardie’s Stories & Such. It beats bananas any day. Unless…but that’s a whole ‘nother thang. And one last thing. Have a great day (or night, depending on your perspective).

  13. Do you think it’s the menopause that’s make you and I talk about such diverse things? Is it the same as leaving your knickers in the fridge and the milk in the closet? Are you really corn fed or really a Contessa or both? I am a princess brought up in a prefabricated metal house…

  14. Even though I moved to the willy whacks from the city in a different state, I still love makeup, even if only for the benefit of the critters in my woods. And my hair? Always said if I worried about my body the way I do my hair I’d be offered a job as a Victoria Secret model. hahahahaha This past year I’ve found several recipes for deep conditioners etc that I love better than anything $$$$$ from Sephora.

  15. Good morning to you 🙂

  19. Hello, I am glad you found the blog where I write about Photography. Yep, thats it – I only discuss photography. Now that I know about your site I will spend time looking at the images you post and what you have to say about them.
    Nice to be in contact.

  20. Thank you for liking my recent post. I have switched gears, for 25 years I was a ” Rag Picker ” A book I read 1992 at a low point in my life was about a man who was a Rag Picker. It changed me and I too became one. I gave up on it about 5 years ago. Well, like the line in the movie said ” I’m Back ” Picking up rags again. I am a predator of predators. I can’t tolerate rude behavior in a man or a bully. Hold on to something, it’s about to storm. The haters already have lite their torch and have their pitch forks, Frankenstin’s monster is in the village. Sorry about the mini-rant. Peace and stay classy, Marshall

  24. Thanks for following my blog. I’m not much interested in lipstick colors but I can see you have the same attitude that I do about Don the Con. I’ll be back to check out your posts now and again even if my wife doesn’t like it!
    Sincerely, Conrad.

  25. Enjoying your Blog. I must admit where I first saw the Blog name at first I thought of the Barefoot Contessa aka Ava Gardner. While looking for the movie on YouTube I found that Lady with a Cooking show who is also known as the Barefoot Contessa. Wonderful timely posts!

      • Thanks for the feedback! It is sometimes overwhelming to see just how evasive these traffickers can be and yet spread to the far corners of America. Of course I know that it is a big problem in other countries, but since I am American, I relate and talk more about home.

  26. Hey there! Hope all is well! I just wanted to see if you will still be attending the Blogging event next Saturday? I couldn’t find an email address on your page so I’m leaving you a comment. Please feel free to e-mail me at amaya587@gmail.com or respond to my comment. Thank you!

  27. What an interesting blog! You obviously know a lot about make-up, how to save money, etc. Plus, your personal “voice” comes through as refreshingly honest and informative. Wishing you all the best. Thanks for following Oh, the Places We See. We love to travel, and when we can, we drop everything to head out of town to see whatever we can see. Here’s to all of us — good times in 2018!

  28. Now that I’ve taken a closer look at your blog, I think Colombia would be a great fit for your interests. Colombians are very dedicated to beauty products. There’s a wealth of ‘natural’ beauty products produced within the country as well as shops that sell the products locally.

  29. Oooh I was an Avon Lady as was my Mum. I remember my Nana getting deliveries in the 70`s 🙂 Those were the days. A lovely intro xx
