Anyone heard from Jane lately?

We’ve all got Internet friends, many of whom we will never physically meet. What would you do if they were no longer there? Would you care?

The thought occurred recently when a very dear friend of mine, who I worked with at the University of Waikato back in New Zealand, was absent without leave from the internet. A day or even two of his not being there is normal. But a week or more?

Fortunately I’m also in contact with one of his many daughters via ‘chat’ on Facebook, otherwise I wouldn’t have known that he had a heart attack last year. Since then he has had ongoing health problems. So when he went quiet once again a few weeks back, I immediately contacted her on FB. Bless her heart, she profusely apologised for not letting me know. She needn’t have. I completely understood. I was just glad that he’s…

How do you write?

Great info. Some really good insight and tips.

Ronovan's avatarronovanwrites

How does one go about writing a novel or an article? They’re both the same thing of sorts, just one is a shorter story than the other. So how? That’s a question a lot of people hit search engines and begin asking. And you will find so many different answers you wonder how a book gets to be written at all. To be honest, every way you read is the right way and the wrong way. It all depends on who is doing the writing. In fact the right way for you to write a novel may not have been written yet. You haven’t written your novel yet. Until then you don’t know for certain what way is the right one for you.

Of course I have an opinion on the subject, sort of. Well I guess I do when it really comes down to it.

First of all, find…

Marc Anthony Oil of Morocco Argan Oil Hairspray-Review

This is some kick ass hairspray!  I’ve tried so many different hairsprays over the years. I paid $8.99 at Ulta.  I got a sample in one of my Ipsy.com packages. It’s lightweight, but has great hold.  I’ve tried alcohol free sprays, and they were awful. Very stiff and helmet head like.  This spray is not only not sticky, but adds a bit of shine to your hair. You can easily comb through your hair, and it doesn’t leave any residue.  It has Keratin along with Argan oil, and UV protection. It’s humidity resistant too!

My new favorite hairspray! Thanks Ipsy.com and Ulta!

AC/DC-It’s A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘N’ Roll)

Vintage AC/DC! The way it should be with Bon Scott. Brian Johnson has nothing on him. Many good memories listening to these blokes back in the early 80’s. I saw them in concert once and my ears rang for a week!

Nothing beats classic Oz rock and it doesn’t get any better than AC/DC.  This was filmed by the Countdown crew in the middle of Melbourne in the 70’s on the back of a truck.  It’s a far cry from the stadiums that AC/DC has filled for decades.  “It’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock and roll” was parodied by kids as “It’s the long way to the shop for a chiko roll.”   Very old school.

“It’s A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘N’ Roll)”

Ridin’ down the highway
Goin’ to a show
Stop in all the byways
Playin’ rock ‘n’ roll
Gettin’ robbed
Gettin’ stoned
Gettin’ beat up
Broken boned
Gettin’ had
Gettin’ took
I tell you folks
It’s harder than it looks

It’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock ‘n’ roll
It’s a long way to…

My Six Favourite Literary Insults

Interesting read.

bridget whelan's avatarBRIDGET WHELAN writer

Literary insultsIt’s not all elegant sentences and good taste in the literary world…sometimes words can wound and sometimes they can bite back…

Mark Twain on Jane Austen

I haven’t any right to criticize books, and I don’t do it except when I hate them. I often want to criticize Jane Austen, but her books madden me so that I can’t conceal my frenzy from the reader; and therefore I have to stop every time I begin. Every time I read ‘Pride and Prejudice,’ I want to dig her up and hit her over the skull with her own shin-bone.

William Faulkner on Mark Twain
A hack writer who would not have been considered fourth rate in Europe, who tricked out a few of the old proven sure fire literary skeletons with sufficient local color to intrigue the superficial and the lazy.

William Faulkner on Ernest Hemingway
He has never been known to use…
