Tips for Buying Beauty Products on EBay

I love to shop for beauty products.  I like trying new stuff.   I usually get most of my skin care products at Ulta.  I’m a rewards member and often have coupons.  I really like Neutrogena Rapid Tone Repair Moisturizer with sunscreen. It has a broad spectrum SPF of 30, which is crucial.  I’ve been using it for about 6 months now.   The bottle is 1 ounce and lasts me about a month, using it every day.  I have seen a marked improvement in the tone of my skin.  I had a few sun spots that have virtually faded to nothing. It has also softened some of my wrinkles.

I’ve been spending around $20 a month for one bottle.   I try to get it on sale when I can.  After doing some research, I’ve discovered that EBay has the best price.  I recently paid $10.50 for my last bottle of my new favorite day cream.

Today I checked the price on several websites, they are as follows:

Walmart.com-$17.97, Ulta.com-$21.99, Walgreens.com-$23.49 and Ebay.com $12.50 with free shipping.  I recommend buying products you use all the time on EBay.  I did buy a ROC moisturizer a month ago on EBay for half of what it normally costs. I read positive reviews; however it ended up irritating my skin, so I stopped using it. Had I bought the ROC at Ulta, I could have returned it.

Make sure to check for an expiration date when shopping on EBay.  Sunscreen will break down after one year, and not be as effective.

EBay is a great place to buy perfume too.  I have purchased perfume that I haven’t been able to find anywhere else for a reasonable price.  I can’t remember the last time I bought fragrance at a department store.  The best value on fragrance seems to be when you buy a gift set. One thing I have noticed on fragrance lotion is, once it’s opened the scent doesn’t last for very long.  If you aren’t going to be using it the all the time, I would skip it.

I love when I can shop from my couch and get great deals. Plus no coupons to clip!

Rags To Riches Pawn Shop-Hannibal, MO.- Review

We recently traveled to Hannibal, MO.  I always like to scope out the local pawn shops to look for jewelry.  I visited Rags to Riches Pawn on August 6th, 2014.  They have a little bit of everything, but I was looking for sterling silver jewelry.  Not only did they have a great selection of sterling silver rings with gemstones, but great prices as well.  The sales staff was very friendly and knowledgeable.

The ring on my index finger is a smoky quartz topaz.  The stone is probably ten carats.  The finish is antique, and the ring has a very Art Deco feel to it.  The ring on my middle finger has five garnets and is very modern. I don’t normally wear rings on my middle finger, but the ring was too big and I had to have it.  The last ring on my ring finger has five amethysts, with an Art Deco look.  All of the rings are a good weight, not flimsy at all. The detail on the Art Deco rings is exquisite. These rings would probably sell for $75 or more elsewhere.

I initially bought two rings, then went back before we left town to purchase another.  The price?  A mere $25 each.  The rings are excellent quality, and were new.  If you are ever in Hannibal, MO make sure to stop at Rags to Riches Pawn http://www.ragstorichespawnshop.com/091

Thrift Store Shopping Secrets

I am an accountant.  I was unemployed in 2010 for a period of time.   I found a temporary accounting position, but it was half of what I normally earn.  I’ve always prided myself on finding the best deals on clothing, cosmetics, travel, etc.

I have never had a problem finding a good accounting position. In March of 2010, I lost my job as Chief Accountant at a local university. For the first month or so I wasn’t worried. I got a decent severance package, and knew something else would come along. It didn’t for another 12 months.

I’ve never shopped at Goodwill before.  Now I really don’t shop anywhere else. I’ve always considered myself a savvy shopper.  But now I have the nicest clothes amongst most of my friends.

Here are some tips for successful shopping at a thrift store:

  • 1. Give yourself plenty of time to shop.  I’ve found men’s clothing mixed in with the women’s. Also you need to look in a size up or down from what you normally wear.  It’s common to find other sizes mixed in with yours.
  • 2. Look at labels first.  I could never afford to wear designer clothes before, now I can. I also find deals on items from our local department stores, as well as nationwide stores such as Kohl’s.
  • 3. Sign up for store rewards cards. I get advance notices of sales and coupons as well.  Also if I spend over $20, I get an automatic discount of 5% on my purchase.
  • 4. Shopping on half price tag day. Usually on Sunday and Monday a particular color of price tag will be 50% off, add your rewards card discount, and you save a bundle.  Sunday is probably the best time to shop because most people donate on Saturday.
  • 5. If you have lost weight or are losing weight, it’s the best place to go to reward yourself.  When you have lost some weight and your old clothes are getting too baggy, shop Goodwill.  Who wants to spend a lot of money on clothes, only to have them not fit in a month or so.
  • 6. Go outside your comfort zone.  Before I discovered Goodwill, the colors of my wardrobe were indicative of my exciting occupation.  I didn’t own anything pink, purple or coral.  Now I have all the colors of the rainbow in my closet.
  • 7. Go often.  I’ve been going every two weeks.  I take a quick survey of my closet and shop accordingly. You will be amazed at the amount of brand new with the tag items you will find.
  • 8. Last but not least.  Find out when your local department store is having a Goodwill sale. When you donate items to the store they will give you a coupon good for that store.  A week after the sale is over, go to your local Goodwill.  You will be amazed at the selection.  January 1st is great also; as many people (including myself) wait until the last minute to donate for the previous year.
  • 9. And the most important thing, donate regularly to your local thrift store.  They help many people in the community, and it’s a great tax write off.
