Happy Saturday! I can’t believe its August already! Where did the summer go? I’ll tell you where it went for me. Laid up. Yep! I hurt my left knee while exercising May 1st. I have a high school reunion coming up that I was trying to get in back in shape for. I love wearing shorts in the summer, but it’s been capris for me all summer. Between wearing a leg brace or leg support, I’m covering up as much as I can.
So I’m exercising on my stationary recumbent bike, at the lowest tension mind you. My exercise of choice prior to the recumbent bike was a treadmill. I have foot issues, so I bought a recumbent bike about six months ago. Now one would think this would be about as less a stressful exercise as you could get. Well not for me! I had worked up to an hour a day on my bike. I’m trying to lose 30 pounds that found its way back to my body. I was down about five pounds when I heard a snap during a bike session. Oh crap! Turns out I tore a ligament in my knee and have arthritis. I got a cortisone shot, but it didn’t work. I had knee surgery last week to remove said loose body and repair a torn meniscus. The surgery went well.
Our summers here in Southeastern Wisconsin are short. One of our favorite things to do in summer is attend street festivals. Before I had my surgery I would limp around as best I could. Beer helps. Having your mobility limited is no fun. It sucks major balls! I haven’t been able to exercise since May. I miss it actually.
A couple we frequently attend these festivals with offered to wheel me around in a wheelchair. I politely declined. I’m always amazed when I see someone on crutches at a festival. Good for you I say.
We’re travelling to New Orleans with this couple in October. I know there will be a ton of walking involved, and hope like heck I’ll be back to normal by then.
Never take your mobility for granted. I live in a two story house, and our bedroom is on the second floor. It’s been a challenge going up and down the stairs. I’m determined to get back to where I was before.
My Summer mani is taking my mind off my bum knee.
Thanks for stopping by.
