My summer in Capri, pants that is!

Happy Saturday! I can’t believe its August already! Where did the summer go? I’ll tell you where it went for me. Laid up. Yep! I hurt my left knee while exercising May 1st.  I have a high school reunion coming up that I was trying to get in back in shape for. I love wearing shorts in the summer, but it’s been capris for me all summer.  Between wearing a leg brace or leg support, I’m covering up as much as I can.

So I’m exercising on my stationary recumbent bike, at the lowest tension mind you.  My exercise of choice prior to the recumbent bike was a treadmill. I have foot issues, so I bought a recumbent bike about six months ago. Now one would think this would be about as less a stressful exercise as you could get. Well not for me! I had worked up to an hour a day on my bike.  I’m trying to lose 30 pounds that found its way back to my body.  I was down about five pounds when I heard a snap during a bike session. Oh crap! Turns out I tore a ligament in my knee and have arthritis. I got a cortisone shot, but it didn’t work. I had knee surgery last week to remove said loose body and repair a torn meniscus.  The surgery went well.

Our summers here in Southeastern Wisconsin are short.  One of our favorite things to do in summer is attend street festivals.  Before I had my surgery I would limp around as best I could.  Beer helps. Having your mobility limited is no fun. It sucks major balls!  I haven’t been able to exercise since May.  I miss it actually.

A couple we frequently attend these festivals with offered to wheel me around in a wheelchair. I politely declined. I’m always amazed when I see someone on crutches at a festival. Good for you I say.

We’re travelling to New Orleans with this couple in October.  I know there will be a ton of walking involved, and hope like heck I’ll be back to normal by then.

Never take your mobility for granted. I live in a two story house, and our bedroom is on the second floor.  It’s been a challenge going up and down the stairs. I’m determined to get back to where I was before.

My Summer mani is taking my mind off my bum knee.

Thanks for stopping by.

  1. Hope you are doing well. I had torn my ACL, but I’ve healed. My problems is, I’m trying to get back in shape, and shed some pounds I gained while hobbling around. Take care.

  2. Hello Tessa. I do sympathize. I also hope you heal quickly and fully. I love your message to not take your ability to walk for granted. As someone who has had to use a wheelchair often during my adult life, the longest time frame being 2 1/2 years, and recovering from my second total hip replacement I understand that feeling well. I have been off my left leg now for four months. I just got to walk a bit with my walker yesterday and I was overjoyed, even while tired out. Please don’t let any event go by just because you don’t want to use a chair. I do wish you a grand and happy trip to New Orleans. Be well, be happy, have fun. Hugs

  3. Hope you get back on your bike soon. Oh, don’t worry about the arthritis, it just gets worserer, as you get olderer, but somehow we cope, and with still being able to enjoy life, the pain becomes insignificant…..

  4. Hopefully, your knee will be be healed fast! I, too, am trying to get some weight off. With arthritis all over the place, it’s not as easy as it used to be!
