ABCO Sport Knee Support Strap Band Review

Happy Sunday! Yesterday we celebrated St. Patrick’s day here in Southeast Wisconsin.  We were meeting friends and knew it was going to be a long night of partying.

I had a partial knee replacement almost five months ago.  My recovery seems to be incredibly slow.  It’s frustrating as I’m very active, and my knee is cramping my style.

I found this ABCO Sport Knee Support on Amazon for $9.99 USD. They are available in three colors.  I purchased black. This is an amazing knee support.  It’s slim and can’t be detected under clothes.  As I’m rebuilding strength in my leg, this knee support has given me the ability to almost do my normal activities.  It’s really helpful when going up stairs.

The price on the company’s website is $17, so at $9.99, it’s a bargain.

NYX Studio Perfect Photo-Loving Primer Review

Hello and happy Sunday!  This primer has been around for awhile, but I just discovered it recently.  NYX Studio Perfect Photo-Loving Primer at Ulta for $12.99 USD.  I had a coupon so I paid $$9.89 USD.  I’ve used Smash Box Photo Finish primer in the past, and this is a total dupe. The Smash Box primer is $36 USD for one ounce, the NYX is one ounce as well.

I’ve tried many primers in the past, but this NYX goes on super smooth and wears all day.  I don’t wear much in the way of foundation, other than concealer under my eyes and around my nose. It really blurs lines, pores, etc.

Gold Bond Ultimate Neck & Chest Firming Cream Review

Okay, I’m the first to admit that when I think of Gold Bond products, I think of  body powder for sweaty dudes. As usual I had a $1.50 coupon for this product, so I thought what the heck. Gold Bond Neck & Chest Cream at Walmart for $9.97 USD.  You get 2 ounces of product and I’ve been using it once a day for over three months.  You are suppose to use it twice a day, but there isn’t an SPF, so I’m just using it at night.

Here’s the description of the product:

Gold Bond Ultimate Neck & Chest Firming Cream. There are 7 intensive moisturizes. It is body treatment cream. Visibly improves firmness & texture. The product is clinically tested, proven effective, fragrance free and dermatologist tested. Advanced hydration blend draws in moisture to improve texture.

  • Neck & Chest Cream, Firming
  • New. 7 intensive moisturizers. Body treatment cream. Visibly improves firmness & texture. Clinically tested. Proven effective. Fragrance free. Dermatologist tested. Physically different than other skin on your body, the delicate neck and chest area is one of the first to show signs of aging. As one of the most exposed areas of the body, the neck and chest are highly susceptible to damage caused by the environment and UV rays, making it age faster. Also, over time our skin naturally loses its youthful firmness and texture as lipids, collagen, and hyaluronic acid, a natural hydration component within skin, start to decline-aging its appearance. Firming Neck & Chest Cream is uniquely formulated with a blend of key ingredients to deliver intense, long-lasting hydration and improve the appearance of skin’s firmness, texture, and elasticity for more supple, youthful-looking skin. Get Visible Results: Immediately: 82% saw softer smoother skin; Day 1: 85% saw improvement in skin texture; 2 Weeks: 97% had visibly firmer, more taut skin; 6 Weeks: 88% had improvement in skin elasticity. Ultimate lotion. Ultimate skin. High-performance firming complex. Advance Hydration Blend: draws in moisture to improve texture. Salicylic Acid (BHA): exfoliates to help reveal a younger-looking complexion. Stress Response Proteins: boost skin’s moisture retention to improve smoothness. Clinically tested. Proven effective. Increases elasticity. Improves texture. Visibly firms. Boosts hydration. Exclusive formula. The makers of Gold Bond do not manufacture private label brands.

Since it’s winter here in Southeast Wisconsin, I’m covered up most of the time. I happened to notice when I wore a scoop neck top recently that my neck and upper chest looked pretty darn good. The reason I noticed was because I could tell where I stopped putting the cream on my chest. OMG!  What a difference! The chest area I missed doesn’t look so hot and the rest, wow! This stuff is amazing! My neck is less crepey as well.

I’ve tried so many neck creams over the years, and spent a ton of money in the process. This cream is $5 an ounce.  I hope like heck Gold Bond never stops making this great product.

Given I’m almost 60, I would say this makes quite a difference. My skin is much smoother and spot free.

Merle Norman Brush Cleansing Bar Review

Wow!  Merle Norman Brush Cleansing Bar is awesome!  My friend gave this to me for my birthday yesterday.  I was so excited to try it, I used it last night. Dang! This is some great stuff!

Here is the description from Merle Norman’s website:

We’ve raised the bar when it comes to cleaning makeup brushes. This simple, fast and convenient alternative to liquid cleansers safely cleans natural and synthetic brushes. Silicone pad provides a deep cleaning surface. Light Papaya and Green Coconut scent. Travel-friendly.

The cost is $18.75 USD for 1.1 ounces.  I couldn’t wait to try it, as I have many make up brushes that I don’t clean as often as I should.  Regular brush cleansing will not only lengthen the life of your brushes, but get rid of bacteria that can cause break outs.

I have used Japonesque Solid brush cleaner in the past, but it pales in comparison to the Merle Norman brush cleaner.   The silicone pad that comes with it makes a huge difference.  You simply wet your brush, swipe on the soap them swipe on the silicone pad, rinse then your are done.

If you are not familiar with Merle Norman Cosmetics, it’s an American cosmetic company that has been around for over 87 years.  Each studio is independently owned and operated. The products are made in the United States and are cruelty free. They have a wide variety of skin care and make up products available. Their “Try before you buy” philosophy has been a calling card since day one. I’ve worked as a beauty advisor at Merle Norman in the past, and can personally vouch for the quality of their products.  You will receive personalized service that is not possible at department stores or other specialty retailers.

I couldn’t believe how much make up came out of my blush brush.  Check out the YouTube video on how to use this great brush cleaner.

I will be purchasing the product again.

Reflections on 2017, and my best of beauty products!

Happy New Year!  Welcome from the frozen tundra that is the upper Midwest!

My reflections will be brief as 2017 was not the best year for me.  I lost a job I had hoped to retire from, and had two knee surgeries on the same leg.  I want nothing more than to put 2017 behind me. 2017 wasn’t all bad, we went on a fun vacation to New Orleans, and our child graduated from high school.  My husband and child are happy and healthy, and that’s the best I can hope for.

I haven’t done as many product reviews this year because I have cut back on my spending.  The products that were my favorites in 2017 were mostly make up, with some great hygiene products thrown in.

Let’s get started.  Clairol Root Touch up $8 USD.  This is such a great product.  I use to spend so much money having my hair professionally colored. I would get partial highlights and walk out of the salon over $150 poorer (with a generous tip).  My hair looked okay having it professionally done, but it wasn’t like anyone ever noticed or complimented me on my hair color.  I wear my hair up 80% of the time, and I’m only coloring it every six weeks, just the touch up, I might do my whole head once a year.

Clairol Root Touch up 12-31-17

My perfect shade!

Dove Dry Spray invisible 48 hr antiperspirant.  $6 USD.  I used a solid stick for years.  This product is pricey but leaves no white marks on your clothing.  The fact that’s its 48 hour is weird, but whatever.

Dove Dry Spray 12-31-17

No white residue!

Having had two surgeries this year, this Drybar Detox Dry shampoo came in very handy.  It’s pricey at $23 USD, but so worth it.

Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo 12-31-17

Great scent!

Pantene Air Spray with no alcohol $5 USD.  This is a great product, my hair is dry and being alcohol free makes this my go to hair spray.  I don’t think I’ve ever paid full price as I’m a big coupon shopper.

Pantene Air Spray alcohol free hair spray 12-31-17

Who doesn’t want whiter teeth?  I found this Dazzling White whitening pen at Dollar Tree for $1 USD.  I have a lot of crowns, so this works really well for me. I’ve seen these at WalMart for $5 USD.  You can find some great beauty buys at the dollar store.

Dazzling White tooth pen 12-31-17

L’Oreal Age Perfect Eye Balm $20 USD.  2017 has taken a toll on my poor face.  This helps great with under eye circles and wrinkles.

L'Oreal Age Perfect Eye Balm 12-31-17

Touch’N Brow eyebrow shapers $1.79 USD at a beauty supply store in the inner city.  Menopause  and 2017 have not been kind to my face, between hair sprouting out of my nose and covering my face, I would be a mess without these puppies. Shaving your face is also a great exfoliant.  I paid $5 USD at Sally Beauty for the same product.

Touch'N Brow Shavers 12-31-17

Last but not least L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise mascara $10 USD.  This has been a game changer for me.  I wear glasses, and this mascara really makes your lashes stand out.  I use blackest-brown.  It’s easy to remove, and I haven’t paid full price for it yet. I have 6 tubes stashed for the next year or so.

Thank you so much for stopping by, and I hope everyone has a great 2018!

L’Oreal Brow Stylist Shape and Fill Brow pencil review

Happy Saturday! Can I just say I’m a coupon clipping kook! Not that’s a bad thing. I love new beauty products, and often find them in the Sunday paper coupons. It might only be a buck or two savings, but it’s a great way to try new products for not a lot of money.

Having coupons that expired today, I made my way to Ulta yesterday. I was trying to stay away, but I had to buy a birthday gift, and Ulta is next store to Charming Charlie  I had not been to Charming Charlie’s in awhile and was very pleasantly surprised. They had many more new and fun products. I almost purchased a book on how to tie a scarf. Lots of great gift ideas. Plus they carry e.l.f. products!

As you get older, your eyebrows get sparse. While I don’t pay a ton of attention to my brows, (i.e. rarely pluck, etc.), I do like them to look nice. Mine are blonde and I wear glasses.

I purchased L’Oreal Brow Stylist Shape & Fill in Blonde at Ulta.  The regular price is $10.99, I paid $4.24 using a manufacturer’s coupon, Ulta coupon and member rewards points. It is identical to Benefit Good Proof brow which costs $24 in my opinion.  The color I was using for the Goof Proof brow is number one.

Here is what’s on Ulta’s website:

Define your brow statement. L’Oreal’s Brow Stylist Shape and Fill Pencil is a unique 3-in-1 mechanical pencil with spoolie. The triangular tip precisely outlines, easily shades, and evenly fills brows. Soft styling spoolie blends for shaped brows.

Benefits:

  • 3-in-1 mechanical pencil with spoolie
  • Triangular tip
  • Outlines, shades, fills
  • Defined brows

The colors are the same, it’s hard to tell them apart.

L'Oreal Brow Stylist swatch 8-26-17

They both have unique tips, which makes it easier to fill in your brows.

L'Oreal Brow Stylist side by side 8-26-17

Benefit Goof Proof on the left, and L’Oreal on the right.

They both go on the same as well. I’ll be taking the Benefit Goof Proof back!

L'Oreal Brow Stylist 8-26-17

I don’t have a photo, as I tried the product on, but have no other eye make up on, and frankly I don’t want to scare anyone. (I’m super pale).

Thanks for stopping by.

Wet n Wild Photofocus Concealer review

Happy Sunday! First off I want to commend Wet n Wild for being a cruelty free brand. Given the fact this brand is so affordable and cruelty free, makes me love this brand even more.  Gone are the days of Wet n Wild being the brand you avoided at the drug store. Now people gravitate towards this brand with their wide variety of items and on trend products.

I recently purchased Wet n Wild Photofocus Concealer in light ivory from Walmart for a whopping $3.93!  I have tried many concealers over the years. High end along with many drug store brands.  My most recent favorite was Maybelline Age Rewind, which was my new favorite, until now.  I saw the Wet n Wild  concealer on my favorite vlogger channel, the GlamGuru by Tati Westbrook.

Here’s the description from Walmart’s website:

Let your natural beauty shine with our selfie-tested creamy and luminous concealer. Tested to be white cast-free under seven different photo lighting conditions, this high coverage concealer allows only your best features to get noticed. Gorgeous skin will be your only look.

  • White cast-free under seven different photo lighting conditions, this high coverage concealer allows only your best features to get noticed.
  • Instantly brightens and perfects appearance of skin – Conceals imperfections, dark spots and blemishes
  • Gentle enough to use on the delicate under eye area – Formulated with light-diffusing pigment
  • Delivers lightweight, buildable coverage

The coverage is amazing!  It barely creases under my eyes, (I have a lot of  under eye lines) and lasts all day.  Before I starting using this product, I was using two concealers. One under my eyes, and one on my nose.  For my daily make up, I just use under eye concealer and concealer on my nose, no foundation.  This concealer is fabulous!

I have never paid this little for such an awesome product. Check it out, you won’t be disappointed.

Zenni Optical glasses review

Hello all my optically challenged WordPress friends! I’ve been wearing glasses for 35 years. I recently bought some glasses with our vision insurance, and they cost $300! With insurance! They were just okay. I couldn’t see my computer at work, so I took them back. I recently ordered some glasses from Zenni Optical. I bought a pair four years ago, and they were great.

The new pair I got have clip on sun shades. You can not tell that these sun shades clip on. They are magnetized at the temple, so your glasses won’t get scratched. I can’t believe the deal I got. The great thing about Zenni is you can try the glasses on virtually. These glasses were spot on as far as how they fit. I don’t have to get them adjusted either! They don’t carry any designer frames, but who cares! It took about 10 days to get my glasses. They came with a hard plastic case and a lens cleaning cloth.

Here’s the low down on what I purchased:

Frames $35.95-included sun shade
Beyond UV 1.61 High Index Progressive no-line Multifocal lenses $73.95
Standard blue anti-reflective coating-Free
Extra clip on sunshade $5.95
Phone number engraved on inside arm-$1.95
Shipping $4.95
Total-$122.75

OMG! The price for the glasses I took back would have been $755 without insurance.

Xenni helps you select the right lenses based on your prescription.

These glasses are super lightweight, and really thin with the sun shades being very dark. My glasses would look like Coke bottles otherwise. My selfie skills suck, but you get the idea.

P.S. I took these photos after a beer or three. LOL!

Toppik Colored Hair Thickener Review

Happy Saturday! I recently did a review on Toppik hair fibers. This spray is way better.  Toppik Colored Hair Thickener was purchased at Ulta for $19.99, I paid $12 due to coupons and rewards points.  I purchased light brown.  I already have the Toppik hair fibers in medium blonde, but the light brown works much better.

My hair is naturally dark blonde, but as I’ve gotten older, the gray hair has been coming in with a vengeance. I can go months before coloring my whole head.  I use to pay a ton of money to have my hair colored, but have found doing it myself works well. I use a root touch up by Clairol, but lately it just doesn’t seem to last.  This spray is awesome. A quick spray after I’ve styled my hair, and the gray is gone. It is a bit dull, and you may want to use a shine spray afterwards.

I haven’t colored my hair for over six weeks, and I’m loving this spray. My hair is thinning on the sides, and this is a great product to address that. I also have a funky cowlick on the back of my head.  Sometimes you see it, sometimes you don’t.  When you can see it, this product covers it nicely. There are only three colors, but the light brown works well on blonde hair.

Here are a few photos.

My selfie skills suck, but I’m old. This product is very natural looking, and it does thicken your hair.  It easily washes out.

Sinful Colors Sinful Shine with Gel Tech Nail Polish Review

Happy Wednesday! I’m all about finding good deals.  I bought this two step polish Sinful Shine Step 1 Color with Gel Tech in Prosecco from Wal-Mart recently.  The two steps consist of a color and special top coat.  Each polish sells for $2.99. I recently put this color on on a Sunday and then touched it up slightly on the following Thursday.  I really didn’t need to touch it up, as it barely chipped,  but I was going out of town for the weekend.

Here are my nails on Sunday, day one.

sinful-shine-1-18-17-day-1

Same nails five days later-Thursday

sinful-shine-1-18-17-day-5

As you can see, there is barely any difference. There isn’t a lot of colors available, but this color is super pretty. It’s taupe with gold specks in it. I wash my hands a lot, and generally am very hard on my nails.  I used two coats of color and one of the top coat.  It dries really quick also. This polish duo held up like a champ.  The polish is toluene, formaldehyde and DPB free.  At $2.99 per bottle you can’t go wrong.
