Happy belated Thanksgiving to all of my American friends. Mine was not good. Thirty minutes before our guests arrived, I came down with Bell’s Palsy. I had this 12 years ago. The left side of my face is paralyzed. There is no known cause, and I’m on medication that will help it to get better. The last time I had this it took over a month to get back to normal.
My wonderful husband made such a lovely Thanksgiving dinner, and I couldn’t hardly taste any of it. We called my doctor three times, but he had his phone turned off. Luckily the emergency room at the local hospital wasn’t crowded, and we were out within a half hour after arriving.
The worst thing is my left eye doesn’t really blink, so my eye is super dry. I’m putting eye drops in constantly. I have to tape my eye shut at night to keep it from drying out. While it doesn’t hurt, it’s difficult to eat and drink. Plus my vision in my left eye is blurry.
The chocolate shake did help a bit.
I’m so sorry to hear that..I’m sending boatloads of prayers all ovah u😍👍🏽✊🏼
Thanks so much. I’m teaching three classes next week, and hoping to be much better by then.
I know u will..cuz u got power sister!!!
Thanks! I hope you are right!
Trust me contessa…I have an in with the goddess
👸🏼🙏🏼
🙂
👸🏼😇👍🏽
Sorry to hear you didn’t get to enjoy the festivities. I hope you get better soon.
Thanks! It was my first Thanksgiving where I didn’t have seconds. LOL!
Oh No – I hope the meds help you get rid of it quickly Contessa 🐵❤️
Thanks Chris, me too.
So Sorry!!!❤
Thanks
Ah Contessa, Mine happened a week and a half before Thanksgiving. I send love and sympathy
Thanks.
What really causes this to happen.. Oooooh geez…
such a sad 😭 thing to happen
The doctor’s don’t really know. It’s just one of those really weird things. When I had it the first time I was super stressed out. This time I was getting over a really nasty cold.
Oooooh Maaan..
Well at least it won’t be permanent..
and that eye.. But .. not much we can do about it…
I sure as heck hope not, as that would really suck. I recovered fully the last time, but that was 12 years ago.
It will again..
just have to be a little patient..
So sorry 😐 that you have to go through this experience..
But you will get through it
Thanks for the encouragement. I would drink some beer, but I would have to use a straw. And no self respecting woman such as myself, would be drinking no stinking beer through a straw!
Hahahaha… 😂😂😂
Gotta laugh, or else I’ll cry. Wah!
I know miss ladie..
hush…
Hope all is better soon!
Thanks so much.
Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear it! My grandma had that about a month or so ago. They gave her meds and it went away a few days later. I hope you feel better soon! 🙂
Thanks so much. Mine seems to be getting worse.
😦 Try to rest a lot, take it easy.
Thanks
So sorry for what happened on Thanksgiving. May you heal quickly.
I was home alone, watched a movie, can’t remember what mundane meal I ate 🙂
Thanks!
Really sorry to hear all that. Get better soon. 🙂
Thank you
It seems unkind to ‘like’ your post when you’ve had such an unpleasant start to Thanksgiving, but I like that you felt willing to share with us. I hope you’re back to normal really soon so that you can enjoy, and taste, Christmas with your family. Sending blessings xxx
Thank you so much. My husband keeps telling me the rest the winter should be better for me. I just got over a nasty cold, now this.
Perhaps this got you because you were already a little run down and vulnerable due to your cold? Rest is a wonderful healer (though difficult when you’re a naturally active person!), takenyour huaband’s good advice – it sounds like he knows best and will look after you well so allow yourself to be looked after for a while. Take care, you sound like a fighter so I offer up a little prayer for all to well real soon. God bless 😊 X
That’s what I’m thinking. I definitely trying to take it easy. Thanks for the kind words.
You were with family, a grand husband that knew what to do. you handle your disability very well. Hugs
Feel better soon! I spent a lot of my Thanksgiving sleeping from my concussion
So sorry to hear that. Hope you are feeling better soon.
I’m trying it’s hard
Sending good thoughts your way.
Ty!
Oh I’m sorry to hear this. People always see to get unwell before special days. Hoping it gets better soon c
Thanks so much.
X
OOOOOOOOOOOh, soooooooooooo Sooooooooooooooooooorry!!! I hope it goes away faster this time. You get your little Contessa-self better, you hear me!?!
Thanks so much.
You take your illness with a kindness, a sense of never failing happiness, a feeling of dignity , you did not rail out or abuse others, you simply moved forward. I admire that. My best wishes. Hugs
Thanks so much for the kind words Scottie.
Oooooh my goodness..
that really sucks…
So sorry.. must be super uncomfortable 😣..
I’m hoping it goes away quickly…
Thanks, it’s the dry eye that really stinks. I’m hoping it will go away sooner more so than later.
I can just imagine imagine your discomfort…
I hope so too.. I really do
Thanks, I’ll live, it’s more of a pain than anything, that and I’m having trouble seeing out of my left eye.
Well darn! Chocolate shakes are good, but a real cureall is the Jamocha at Arby’s. I can’t see what I’m typing so hope this is legible.😂. Hope it’s not as long as a month this time.
Me too! Hopefully I’ll be better by Christmas, otherwise I’m going to have some really wonky photos.
What’s the difference between Bell’s palsy and a stroke?
A stroke is way more serious and can affect your entire body. Bell’s palsy just affects your face, and can be cured with medication. You can recover from a stroke, but most people will have some residual effects.
Ahhh great knowledge! I hope it doesn’t last long…
Me too.
Feel better!
Thank you.
Damn! I hope it rights itself soon. I’ve never even heard of such a thing, but it looks and sounds uncomfortable.
Neither did I when I got it 12 years ago. Eating and drinking are a bit tricky, but it’s the dry eye that blows. That and having to tape my eyelid close before I go to bed.
Take care of yourself..get well soon..
Thanks so much.
Thanksgiving for American people. Hope always happy in life, love and relationships.. always say Thanks to God for all real..
From: Im , Indonesia..
Thank you.
I had no idea Bell’s Palsy came on so fast. I do hope you recover quickly. Drink lots of chocolate milkshakes, perhaps that will speed up your recovery!!!!!
Thank you. I wish it was that easy, otherwise I would have a 55 gallon drum in my bedroom!
So sorry I hope you feel better soon..😊
Thank you.
I’m sorry to hear about this. Mine wasn’t good, either. Thanks for following me. You have a neat blog with all kinds of fun and interesting topics in it. It’s like a variety show; hee-hee! I hope you get beter soon and I said a prayer and hope it works — certainly can’t hurt. 🙂
Thank you so much. I like to cover a variety of topics. Mostly making people laugh. Sorry to hear your Thanksgiving wasn’t so great. Here’s hoping for a better Christmas season!
Hope you feel better soon. My prayers for your fast recovery
Thanks so much.
You’re very much welcome
Nothing like an uninvited guest for Thanksgiving (or any day for that matter). Hang in there!
Thanks so much! Nothing like showing up unannounced 30 minutes before our guests arrived, how rude! LOL!
So sorry! I have a friend in Illinois who is just getting over a bout of this. She’s a talented young singer and has had to cancel several gigs. Hope yours goes away quickly.
Thanks, me too.
Please take care and get well soon…
Thanks so much.
Sorry that happened, i hope Christmas will go better for you at least x
Thanks, me too.
Hugs and prayers for you. I hope you get well really soon.
Btw you are very pretty!😍
Thanks so much.
Hope the meds kick in soon and you (and your dry eye) are better!!! Licks and Woof! Love, Maggie
Thank you.
That just sucks….I’m so sorry to hear about your palsy and your Thanksgiving! I hope that by the time you are reading this, things are much better. You actually look like you have just a little smirk😏. I remember my grandmother always telling me that if we have our health, we have everything. Isn’t that the truth! My husband’s ex, age 65, just died of pancreatic cancer after being diagnosed 3 months ago, and we watched his daughters suffer as they watched their mom slowly pass. It was awful. I hope this passes quickly and I’m glad you haven’t lost your sense of humor!
Thanks so much! It is quite the smirk for sure. I had it once before, but that was 12 years ago. Health certainly is everything. I just joined a gym about a month ago, but have only been a few times due to being sick or this wonderful palsy crap. I’m teaching three classes this week to high school students, so that will be fun. I asked the teacher to let them know what’s going on with me, so I don’t have to go through a discussion. I could simply say nothing, but my vision is affected so I need some help. Thanks for stopping by.
What classes do you teach?
Aww so sorry to hear that. Hope you’re feeling better!
Thanks so much. I can finally close my eye after six days. It’s just takes a long time. Thanks for stopping by.
Hope, by now, you’ve recovered! Sure messed up your Thanksgiving holiday. Thanks for your visit & follow. Your blog looks diverse & interesting! Look forward to reading more. 💛 Christine
Thanks! The palsy is a bit better. It took a month to get over the last time I had it. I’m usually good for a laugh.
I have a very slight facial-droop. So I get it. That does suck! Keep us informed. You could do some aspeech therapy to work on those muscles…..retrain them.
Thanks so much. It has gotten much better, it just takes time. Thanks for stopping by.
Chocolate helps everything, in my opinion. Glad to hear that you are doing better and thanks for following my blog. I will be following you as well.
Thanks so much. It’s been a month and I almost have my entire smile back. Hopefully I’ll never get this again. Have a great holiday!
Glad to hear you are getting better. I wish you the best. Hugs
Thanks so much Scottie! Merry Christmas to you and Ron and your kitty cat.
Same in return, I am glad I have gotten to know you. my joy and happiness to you and your family. Hugs
Thanks so much, I’m off to make candy in order to increase the size of my arse! LOL!
Ron bought me a cream chocolate pie and chocolate milk today. Yes I am not to have them, but he said it is a christmas treat. Hugs
Oh how I love holiday goodies!
You too!
I had Bell’s palsy when I was a teenager, just after graduating from high school. They gave me shots of vitamin B but it didn’t seem to hurry the recovery. Hope your recovery is complete by now.
Thanks so much. It’s been a month and I’m almost back to normal.
