Ulta & Target haul 2-3-17

Happy Saturday!  I made my weekly visit to Ulta for some new products. Unfortunately for me, they only had one of the things I was looking for.  Lucky for me, Target is in the same strip mall. I love to try new products, and share the results.  I’m also very thrifty, so nothing was over $10.

First up Maybelline Brow Precise Fiber Volumizer in Blonde. After reading some of the first reviews on Ulta, I was skeptical. The price is $9.99 USD, but I paid $8.04. My brows are non existent.  As I’ve gotten older, they have gotten thinner.  I wear glasses, so I usually just slap on some brow pencil and call it a day. This product works great! You have to make sure you wipe the tip off before applying.  I really like the color and it did indeed add volume.  Here is me with the product on one eye, and nothing on the other. My brows could probably look better, but my vision is really poor, and it’s hard to pluck them.

I color my hair myself, and have for several years. I usually do the roots only, but lately the color doesn’t last for very long. I’ve tried different root cover ups, but my with my hair color, I have a hard time finding a good match. Since I needed to spend another $5 to use my Ulta coupon, I decided on Toppik Hair Building Fibers in Light Brown for $7.95 USD, I paid $6.40USD. I have used Toppik in the past in medium blonde.  The light brown is perfect.  This is a travel size, but a great way to try out a color. My hair is fine, and when I straighten it, it looks pretty thin.  This helps to fill out sparse spots as well..

After I went to Ulta, Target was my next stop. Target has a great selection of e.l.f. products. I had read about this product e.l.f. Makeup Remover Pen from another beauty blogger. It was a whopping $3 USD.  It works really well. Since my eyelids are hooded, I am forever getting mascara on my upper lid.  This pen works great. I saw this same item on Amazon for $9.85. Target really has the best selection of e.l.f. products I’ve ever seen.

I had really hoped to get this next product at Ulta, but they are not carrying it yet. Aveeno Positively Radiant 60 second in-shower facial was $6.99 USD at Target. I had a coupon so I got it for $5.99 USD. I used it for the first time today. It was simply amazing! My skin was looking tired, and I don’t exfoliate as much as I should. I could tell a big difference after just one use. It’s a generous size at 5 ounces, and I only needed a small amount. This is my new favorite semi weekly cleanser.  You only need to use it twice a week. It contains soy and lemon peel extract. It has the 5 Factors of Radiance-tone, texture, dullness, blotchiness, and brown spots. My skin was so smooth!  I can’t wait to see how my skin looks in a few weeks.

Here’s me with my new brow product on, mini facial and Toppik!  Ready for a date with my hubby.  My dog Teddy was supervising.

Thanks for stopping by.

    • I remember your post about Toppik. I’m so glad I tried a different color. One thing to note about the brow color, I would go a shade lighter than you normally use. I have on the blonde shade and it looks darker than one would think.

  1. I am a huge fan of the e.l.f. makeup remover pen. I use it every day to get off mascara that I manage to get in places it shouldn’t be. You just need to tap it against the skin rather than rub the mascara away. That works better for me anyway.

  2. I had successful surgery on my right eye this past Tuesday which enables me to see again! I saw this post and wanted to comment as it resonated with me. How do you like Ulta compared with Sephora (that is if you have Sephora in your state)? I used to go to Sephora occasionally when I lived in the NY/NJ area but upon moving to Maine discovered there were’t any. However I was really into Clinique products at the time so was able to buy them at Macy’s. Now Maine has a few free standing Sephora’s plus I see they are putting them inside of some JC Penney stores as well. We also have Ulta. In Maine at least the only difference between the two are Sephora carries a few brands (Laura Mercier for one) that Ulta doesn’t and visa versa. Also Ulta carries a fairly large supply of store brand beauty products like Revlon and Loreal which Sephora doesn’t. In general, I think Ulta also carries a larger line of upper end hair products like Paul Mitchell than Sephora. I haven’t seen MAC in either one but since I had to stop using lipstick there’s nothing in their line I use.
I had a TBI as a child and as a result one eyebrow is higher (or the other lower depending on your perspective) so for years I had to be careful when I got new glasses because sometimes they would cover the lower brow making look extremely funny. I know you’re not supposed to tweet from the top but several times I’ve tried it in an attempt to get them somewhat even ~ didn’t work.
I use a product for my brows by Anastasia called Tinted Brow Gel which is just like a mascara wand. Funny thing is I use a shade called Granite. I remember when I first saw the name I assumed it was for gray brows but it’s not. It’s a medium almost ashy brown. My brows are thick but A. unruly even though I obsessively tweeze them and B. has a small patch of white on inner corner of one. I find this gel holds them in place perfectly, covers the white area plus defines the entire brow, making it richer.
I won’t get into the whole Mallen Streak issue with my hair right now but have tried several root cover ups. Didn’t care for Rita Hazen at all. Small can, big price at $25 plus despised the spray. I do see they now have a dual purpose stick for temples and brows ~ also $25. I settled (and love) Color Wow Root Concealer. It’s about $34 at Ulta but lasts forever. Has a duel tipped applicator brush; wide at one end and thinner at the other. I use Medium Brown. I’ve also used brown eye shadow in a pinch. I color my own hair as well but will get into that another time as the Mallen Streak comes with it’s own unique set of problems.
Great post BTW! Right up my alley. I always say if I worried about my body the way I do my hair I’d look like a VS model.

    • Glad your eye is all better. I’m not really a big fan of Sephora. I find more variety at Ulta. Plus Ulta always has specials going on. I rarely pay full price for anything at Ulta. Also there is an Ulta about five minutes from my house. I have to go to the mall 20 minutes away if I want to go to Sephora.

      • You brat! Ulta is 52 miles from me ~ one way. Sephora is almost 100 miles, again one way. I still have a $50 gift card from Sephora I got as a birthday gift 2 years ago! There are “things” I like about each one of them. Sephora carries Laura Mercier which is my eye makeup of choice. Also on the rare occasion I wear a light foundation I use LM. Since I’m a bit of a vampire when it comes to the sun I wear sunscreen 365 days/year and have been using La Roche-Posay since back when you had to get it from outside the US. Now it’s available here but only Ulta carries it (between theses two stores).
I get my left eye done on Feb 13. Can’t wait!

      • Rural isn’t the word for it. 32 mile RT to grocery store. Here’s just the top of my 800′ driveway. hahahahC1lv1m6XAAIxxDz.jpg
